Hello Bachelor's students. Welcome to the College of Liberal Studies blog. It is my hope that this blog will keep you informed and updated about current and upcoming activities at the College of Liberal Studies.
About the Bachelor's Blog
When you are asked to do something called the Bachelor’s Blog, let’s face it, there is plenty of room for misinterpretation. Perhaps you are expecting my prediction on who is going to be chosen by this season’s eligible hunk on the popular reality television show. Sorry.
Or, maybe you think you’ll find tips for navigating life as an unmarried guy. Sorry again. No such advice here (although that does give me an idea for a new Web site).
As I was thinking about this blogging enterprise, I did some searching on what the word “bachelor” means and it turns out there are several. One is historical and refers to a young knight serving under the banner of another knight. Then, in the world of marine biology, a bachelor is a young male fur seal.
For our purposes, bachelor is used in reference to a degree, the kind you earn from an institution of higher learning, the kind that many of you reading this are either thinking about or, are pursuing right now. I will post weekly in this space – sometimes more often – College of Liberal Studies events, timely happenings, trends in adult learning, and tips that have helped me during my own journey as a nontraditional student. Like you, I have earned my degrees as an adult student and know that sometimes we need some extra motivation to keep going.
